The Lion and The Unicorn Monoprints

A3 Mono prints intended to be the end credits of  ‘The Lion and The Unicorn’  inspired by films such as ‘Red Shoes’ and ‘My Fair Lady.

These images were created through the process of mono screen print. In this process you mix paint with more than your usual amount of emulsion to create a slightly watery consistency which allows you to paint directly onto the screen. The aim is to keep the layers thick to keep the acrylic from drying on the screen during painting. After completing your image you add more emulsion then draw the squeegie across the screen to transfer your one of a kind picture onto your paper.

This second pass of ink on the unicorn drawing was created by tracing over the ghost image left on the canvas and using what ink was left on the screen to try another attempt. It creates a very different, more experimental type of image which I still enjoy.

Process (when I’ve finished the paintings it always reminds me of jelly).
